Consigned PCB Assembly and Electromechanical Manufacturing
Keep Control of Your Components Without Slowing Production
For 40 years, VR Industries has built high-reliability electronics in Warwick, Rhode Island, for medical device, defense, industrial, and blue economy customers. Our consigned programs run on the same processes, quality systems, and people as our turnkey manufacturing work, so choosing consignment never means accepting a different standard.

Full Consignment, Partial Consignment, and Turnkey Compared
Each model shifts sourcing responsibility differently. Our supply chain management team can help you choose the split that fits your program.
| Â | Full Consignment | Partial Consignment | Turnkey |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who sources components | You supply all or most components | You supply critical or controlled parts, we source the rest | We source every component |
| Supplier relationships and pricing | Stay with you | Shared between you and VR Industries | Managed by our supply chain team |
| Material lead time | Removed from our side, with time for validation and kit preparation | Applies only to parts we source | Managed by VR Industries |
| Often chosen for | IP-sensitive, ITAR-controlled, obsolete, or stockpiled components | Programs with a few controlled or customer-specified parts | Programs that want one partner to manage sourcing |
| Quality standards | Same processes and quality systems | Same processes and quality systems | Same processes and quality systems |
How We Receive, Verify, and Protect Consigned Material
Incoming Inspection and Kit Review: Every consigned shipment goes through incoming inspection, adapted to your specific requirements while maintaining our standard quality control protocols. We review your bill of materials against the consigned component specifications and flag any discrepancies before production begins.
Counterfeit Verification for Customer-Supplied Parts: Customer-supplied parts receive the same scrutiny as parts we purchase ourselves. We verify components through visual examination, electrical testing, and high-resolution X-ray inspection, and our X-ray analysis has identified counterfeit components in customer-supplied material before they reached production.
Segregated Storage and Traceability: Our stock room verifies lot and date codes at receiving, and our customized ERP system carries that information into the work order and maintains complete serialization and tracking records. Consigned material is protected through segregated storage, dedicated handling procedures, and controlled access.
Preparing Your Consigned Kit
To set up a consigned project, we ask for the following.
- A complete kit checklist that matches the bill of materials
- A bill of materials with manufacturer part numbers and any approved alternates
- Assembly drawings, build documentation, and required quantities
- Test fixtures and test procedures, if your program requires customer-defined testing
Component packaging, extra parts to cover placement attrition, and moisture-sensitive handling all affect how smoothly a consigned build runs. We review these requirements with you during project setup, so production begins with a complete, verified material set.
Consigned Builds From Circuit Card Assembly to Box Build

Consigned PCBA Builds
Our consigned printed circuit board assembly services cover surface mount technology, through-hole, and mixed-technology builds, including fine-pitch components and BGAs. Every consigned PCBA benefits from automated optical inspection, X-ray inspection, and electrical verification.

Consigned Box Build and Cable Assemblies
Beyond the board, we handle consigned electromechanical assembly and box build, including cable routing, mechanical fixture installation, and chassis assembly with customer-supplied enclosures. Manufacturing cells can be configured for consigned projects. Our technicians run your test procedures with complete documentation, and fixtures can connect directly to your own systems for real-time test data. Functional testing and system configuration complete the process before shipment.

Consigned NPI and Prototype Builds
Our New Product Introduction capabilities support low-volume builds with consigned materials, so you can validate designs before committing to production quantities. Our engineers provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and bill of materials optimization feedback specific to your component selections, and our ERP system tracks revisions, substitutions, and engineering changes.
Quality Systems Behind Every Consigned Build
Consigned assemblies are built to IPC Class 2 and Class 3 requirements under the same quality systems that govern all VR Industries work.
ISO 9001:2015 certified, and the first Rhode Island contract manufacturer to achieve ISO 9001 in 1996
ISO 13485:2016 certified for medical device manufacturing
ITAR registered for defense programs and controlled materials
FDA registered facility
For defense and aerospace work, our soldering and inspection processes are developed to J-STD-001ES Space Addendum Class 3 standards. Learn more about our ITAR and military circuit card assembly capabilities.
Storage, Kitting, and Program Management Support
Every consigned program has a dedicated Program Manager, your single point of contact from component receipt through delivery. Our receiving team supports direct drop shipments, just-in-time deliveries, and bulk inventory transfers. Customers who want to keep inventory buffers close to production can use our excess component storage and warehousing and fulfillment services.
